In protest of Israeli attacks on Gaza, the Palestinian National and Islamic Forces group has declared a global strike for Monday (April 7), calling for a “No Work, No School” campaign. Expressing solidarity with this initiative, Sarjis Alam, chief organizer (Northern Region) of the National Citizen Party, has called for a “March for Gaza.”

Sargis Alam announced the program in a Facebook post on the afternoon of Sunday (April 6). However, he did not mention the specific time of the event.

On the other hand, student leaders of Dhaka University have called for a solidarity and protest rally at 4 PM near the Raju Sculpture under the banner of “March for Palestine.” The students have also called for a boycott of classes, labs, and all educational activities.

In the post, Sarjis said, “As humans or Muslims, our responsibility should not be limited to stopping these acts. Rather, students and people from all parts of the country, regardless of political affiliation, should unite and take to the streets to protest against the Israeli murderers. We may not be able to fight alongside our brothers in Gaza at this moment, but at least we can take to the streets of our own land to express solidarity with their struggle.”

Meanwhile, student leader AB Jobayer, who left the Citizens’ Committee before the formation of the NCP, wrote on Facebook: “Tomorrow (Monday), our oppressed brothers and sisters in Gaza have called for a global strike. They have urged for the closure of schools, colleges, universities, offices, and courts worldwide in demand for the cessation of genocide. Responding to their call, I am urging for a general strike in Bangladesh on April 7. Tomorrow, shut down all educational institutions, factories, and offices. Boycott classes and exams. Let’s unite globally and demand: ‘Free Free Palestine.'”

Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the Central Committee of Islami Chhatra Sena, M. Faridul Islam Chowdhury, said, “There is no time left to sit at home and comment anymore. Everyone must come forward from their respective positions. We must all join this global initiative.”

Students of the 20th batch of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) are also voicing the same sentiment, stating that the ongoing oppression in Palestine—through constant bombings, starvation, and the suppression of freedom of speech—cannot be ignored. They emphasize that this is not just a political crisis; it is a profound moral crisis. They urge everyone to step beyond the boundaries of social media, unite, protest, organize, and take effective action. They strongly condemn the genocide conducted by Israel in Gaza, as well as the unconditional support of superpowers like the United States.

In addition to BUET, students from Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), Pabna University of Science and Technology, Jessore University of Science and Technology, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), and Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) have also announced their participation in this protest.

Additionally, students from the University of Chittagong, Khulna University, International Islamic University Chittagong, Dhaka Medical College, Chittagong Medical College, Sher-e-Bangla Medical College, Rangpur Medical College, Mymensingh Medical College, Gopalganj Medical College, Habiganj Medical College, Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College, Noakhali Medical College, Shahabuddin Medical College, North East Sylhet Medical College, South Apollo Medical College Barishal, International Islamic University, and Government Titumir College have also announced their participation.

Some private universities have also called for a boycott of classes and exams. They have announced that they will not participate in any classes, labs, assignments, or exams during this time. On Sunday afternoon, students from East West and BRAC Universities made this announcement on the Private University Students Alliance of Bangladesh (PUSAB) group. Following this, North South University, World University, Daffodil University, and several other private universities expressed solidarity and declared similar actions.
