The High Court is set to hear the rule regarding the bail of former ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in a sedition case after the Eid and vacation holidays.
A bench of Justice Md Atoar Rahman and Justice Md Ali Reza has set the hearing date.
Apurba Kumar Bhattacharjee, lawyer of Chinmoy Krishna Das, provided this update on Sunday (March 23).
Earlier, on February 4, the High Court issued a rule asking why Chinmoy Krishna Das should not be granted bail in the sedition case. The bench had issued a two-week rule for his bail application.
The bail application was heard by lawyers Apurba Kumar Bhattacharjee and Prabir Ranjan Halder, while Additional Attorney General Anik R Haque and Additional Attorney General Arshadur Rouf represented the state.
The sedition case against Chinmoy Krishna Das stems from a rally he led in Chattogram on October 25, where he was accused of insulting the national flag. A case was filed against him on October 31, naming 18 others. After another rally in Rangpur on November 22, Chinmoy was arrested in Dhaka on November 25. His bail application was rejected the following day, and he was sent to jail by the Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate.
