Home Affairs Adviser, Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, stated that those responsible for this heinous act like rape and women assault will face severe punishment.

He made this ramark during his visit to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka to inquire about the treatment of an eight-year-old girl who was raped in Magura.

On the morning of Sunday (March 9), he visited the CMH at Dhaka Cantonment to assess the child’s condition and directed hospital officials to provide the highest level of medical care.

A press release signed by Faisal Hasan, public relations officer of the ministry, shared this information.

Earlier, on March 6, the Adviser had reassured the child’s mother over phone that the government would ensure the best possible medical care for the child.

As the child’s condition worsened, she was transferred from Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) to CMH for more specialized care on Saturday (March 8).

During his visit to the hospital, the Home Affairs Adviser confirmed that a case had been filed against four individuals involved in the rape and attempted murder of the child at Magura Sadar Police Station, with all four suspects now in custody.

He emphasized that law enforcement agencies had been instructed to take a firm stance on crimes involving the harassment and rape of women. Additionally, he ordered a prompt investigation into the case and the submission of a report to the court.

He further stated, “We are committed to ensuring women can live and work without fear. Those who try to obstruct them will be held accountable, and no leniency will be shown.”

The Adviser also stressed the importance of society’s collective responsibility in combating violence against women and rape. He called for a revival of family, social, and moral values, urging everyone to speak out against such crimes.

Additinally, he also assured that law enforcement agencies would expedite the investigation and ensure swift legal action, leading to a higher sentence for the perpetrators.
